Gianni, Marco and Luca Rivera founded Publispei in 1972.
At the beginning of the eighties Carlo Bixio bought out 50% of Publispei’s holdings, the most important company in the production field of television events then headed by Gianni Rivera and together they worked at relaunching the Festival of Sanremo.
The company proposed new ideas and new locations- the Palarock, the Dopofestival and a voting system via football pool cards- invited prestigious national and international guests like Vasco Rossi, Eros Ramazzotti, Zucchero, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Whitney Houston, Annie Lennox, Paul Simon, Rod Stewart and the Duran Duran.
Also during the eighties Publispei was behind popular TV shows like “Buon Compleanno TV”, “Serata d’onore” and “Gran premio dello spettacolo.”
Carlo Bixio produced over one thousand hours of television programmes, events, variety shows, TV drama and music shows in Italy and other European countries. Among these: “Un disco per l’estate”, “Uno due tre RAI”, “La Vela d’oro”, “Regalo di Natale”, “Festival Disney”, “Mina contro Battisti”, “Eurofestival”, “Prove tecniche di trasmissione” with Piero Chiambretti, “Gran Premio” with Pippo Baudo, “Cando calienta el sol” with Raffaella Carrà, the first television variety produced and broadcast in Italy and Spain.
In 1990 Publispei realised “MEDIASAT – Salone delle Attività Televisive,” a meeting point as well as a chance of exchange for the European television market. During the nineties Publispei was engaged in the production of “Un disco per l’estate,” the Sanremo Festival and above all the “Eurofestival,” a live event broadcasted across Europe from five Cinecittà soundstages, including famous soundstage 5.
A record of 250 million viewers tuned in to watch the show.
In 1997 Publispei inaugurated a new professional path by entering the world of television drama. In this field Publispei proved a rare talent for innovation and with “Un medico in famiglia” it opened the door to long seriality. Publispei entered also the field of sitcom with the production of “7 vite” and experimentation with the groundbreaking sit-show “Suonare Stella.”
In ten years Publispei has produced over 500 hours of prime time shows (television dramas) for the two major italian broadcasters.
Among the numerous hits produced by Carlo Bixio for Publispei stand out “Un medico in famiglia”, “Lo zio d’America”, “Un posto tranquillo”, “Il padre delle spose”, “Attenti a quei tre”, “Raccontami una storia”, “I Cesaroni” and the recent “Sissi” and “Tutti pazzi per amore.”
